From the Bayou to Berkeley

Carrie Salazar is a freelance digital and traditional illustrator. Although mostly specialized in Children’s Illustration, Carrie enjoys working in a variety of styles. Her work features diverse characters with a range of ages and backgrounds.

She is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators and The American Association of Illustrators. Her work has been featured in young adult and children’s books, short stories, and educational materials..

Carrie, the daughter of immigrants, grew up in a small community in southeastern Louisiana. She now lives in Californian with her family and many pets. Despite being a Californian now, she still slips a "y'all" in most sentences.

Statement

I get inspiration from dreams, history, people, events, and my mischievous childhood in the rural south. I'm driven to tell my own story, or other people's stories, through illustrations.
